In 1969, with government funding on the line for public television, Mr. Fred Rogers went before the U.S. Senate to advocate for mental health and children’s education through television. He argued that every child is special and needs special attention. Mr. Rogers spoke to a speechless Senator Pastore for almost 10 minutes. At the end of his speech was a special moment. As we all know, public television was saved and Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood aired new episodes for over 30 years and still airs reruns. The video is worth the watch. Very inspiring.
